How We Test and Choose Products
MOTOZMO makes money when readers buy through our links, so the order of products on this page is never for sale. This page explains exactly how a product gets recommended, and how it gets dropped.
-
Shortlist from the problem, not the catalogue
Every guide starts from the rider problem (“hands freeze at 40°F”, “chain skips under load”), not from what’s popular on Amazon. Products that don’t solve the stated problem don’t make the shortlist, however well they sell.
-
Hands-on testing where the category allows it
For testable gear we buy the products and measure. Example: our tire-pressure gauge accuracy test ran 8 gauges through 72 readings at 20/30/40 PSI against a shop-verified reference gauge, plus a freezer round to catch cold-weather drift. The full dataset is published with the article, including the results that embarrassed products we expected to win.
-
Evidence review where it doesn’t
Some categories (helmets, boots at scale) can’t be fully bench-tested by a small publication. There we triangulate: manufacturer specifications, certification standards (ECE 22.06, DOT, CE levels), long-term owner reports across forums and retailer reviews, and recall/safety notices. A pick based on evidence review is labelled as such in the guide.
-
Manufacturers get a right to share their opinions/factsheets
The manufacturers of the products we cover can share factsheets or information about their products. Responses are published with the article, unedited except for length.
-
Verification dates and updates
Every buying guide shows when its products and prices were last verified. When a pick is discontinued or superseded, the guide is updated and the change is dated. Guides that no longer meet this standard get rebuilt or removed, not quietly left to rank.
How the money works
Guides contain affiliate links (Amazon and others). If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never change a ranking: the gauge that won our test cost less than the gauge that came last. The affiliate disclosure also appears at the top of every guide that contains affiliate links.
